What is Top-Load Service?

Definition of Top-Load Service

Top-load service refers to placing your vehicle on the top level of a two-level open car carrier. Since many open transport trailers have two decks, vehicles can be loaded on either the lower or upper level. With top-load service, your car is loaded on the upper deck, away from road debris, dust, fluid leaks from other vehicles, and potential minor damage.

This option is considered a premium add-on when using open auto transport and is ideal if you want a little extra peace of mind without paying for full enclosed transport. It can be particularly helpful for newer vehicles, luxury models, or cars with sensitive exteriors.

Key Benefits of Top-Load Service:

  1. Better protection from road debris: Being on the top level keeps your car farther from dirt, rocks, and grime kicked up by the road.
  2. Avoids fluid leaks from other vehicles: Vehicles on the lower level may be subject to oil or fluid drips from cars above, top-load eliminates this concern.
  3. Less risk of door dings and contact: Fewer people around your car during loading/unloading reduces the chance of minor scrapes or dents.
  4. Extra peace of mind: If you’re using open transport but still want added protection, top-load is a smart choice.
  5. Better visibility and air circulation: Cars on the top level typically get better airflow, which can help reduce dust buildup during long-distance moves.

When to Consider Top-Load Service:

  • You’re shipping a new car or modified vehicle.
  • You have a luxury or exotic car but don’t want to upgrade to enclosed shipping.
  • You’re concerned about grime, fluid leaks, or road hazards.
  • You’re willing to pay a little more for extra care.
  • You want to avoid having your car underneath multiple other vehicles.
