2 J's Auto Transport

Los Angeles Auto Shipping Company

2 J's Auto Transport is the top-rated car shipping company in Los Angeles, offering the fastest and easiest way to ship your vehicle to or from Los Angeles

Step 1 of 3 - Destination

Welcome to 2 J’s Auto Transport, one of the leading auto transport companies in Los Angeles. Whether you’re relocating from the Westside, shipping a vehicle from the Valley, or moving a car to or from DTLA, we provide reliable, affordable, and fully insured auto transportation from LA to anywhere nationwide. With years of experience, we specialize in R.V. transportation, heavy hauling, open carrier shipping, enclosed  auto transport, and shipping of both operable and inoperable vehicles.

Los Angeles is the largest auto transport market in the United States by city volume. The metro stretches across over 500 square miles with a highway network built around I-405 (the country’s most congested freeway), I-10 (east-west transcontinental from Santa Monica to Jacksonville), I-5 (north-south from Mexico to Canada), I-110, and the 101. The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach together form the Western Hemisphere’s largest container port complex, processing more imported vehicles from Asia than any other U.S. facility. This highway density and port infrastructure mean carrier availability is excellent and pricing competitive year-round for LA shipments.

As a federally licensed auto transport broker (MC# 799000, USDOT# 02349019), we dispatch from a vetted network of FMCSA-compliant carriers. We handle carrier matching, route coordination, insurance verification, and real-time tracking, so you can focus on your move.

If you’re shipping your car for the first time to or from Los Angeles, here’s a complete guide on how to transport a car. Also see our California state page for statewide CARB, wildfire, and registration details.

Shipping From Los Angeles: What You Should Know

Road Network & Carrier Access

LA’s freeway system is the backbone of auto transport on the West Coast. I-405 connects the Valley to the Westside to Long Beach (and is notoriously congested at all hours). I-10 runs east through downtown to San Bernardino and beyond. I-5 runs north through Burbank/Glendale to the Central Valley and south to Orange County/San Diego. I-110 connects downtown to the ports and South Bay. The 101 serves Hollywood, the Valley, and continues northwest to Ventura.

Carrier access varies dramatically across LA. Suburban areas (Encino, Calabasas, Pasadena, Arcadia, Torrance, Cerritos) generally have wide streets and easy carrier access. Dense urban areas (DTLA, Hollywood, Silver Lake, Echo Park, Koreatown) and hillside neighborhoods (Hollywood Hills, Laurel Canyon, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades) often CANNOT accommodate a 75-foot car hauler due to narrow roads, steep grades, and tight turns. In these cases, carriers use staging areas near freeway on-ramps or commercial lots.

Common Pickup & Delivery Areas

DTLA / Arts District / South Park: Dense, congested, limited truck parking. Carriers prefer early morning pickup (before 7 AM) or staging at a nearby commercial lot.
Hollywood / West Hollywood / Silver Lake / Echo Park: Narrow streets, hilly terrain, permit parking. Full-size carriers often can’t access residential addresses. Meeting point on a wider boulevard (Sunset, Santa Monica, Highland) is common.
Hollywood Hills / Laurel Canyon / Bel Air / Pacific Palisades: EXTREMELY difficult for carriers. Steep, winding, narrow roads. Meeting point at the base of the hills is standard.
Westside (Santa Monica, Venice, Brentwood, Westwood, Mar Vista, Culver City): Mixed access. Main boulevards work; narrow residential blocks may need alternatives. UCLA campus area = seasonal student demand.
Valley (Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana, Woodland Hills, North Hollywood, Burbank, Glendale): Generally excellent carrier access with wider streets and good 101/405/5 access. High-volume pickup area.
South LA / Inglewood / Compton / Hawthorne: Good carrier access near major corridors. SoFi Stadium/LAX area sees event-related transport demand.
East LA / SGV (Pasadena, Arcadia, Alhambra, Monterey Park, Covina, Pomona): Strong I-10 and I-210 access. Carrier-friendly suburban streets.
South Bay / Beach Cities (Torrance, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Long Beach): Good access. Port of Long Beach generates import vehicle pickup demand.
Port of LA / Port of Long Beach: We coordinate direct terminal pickup for imported vehicles once they clear customs and port processing (typically 1-5 business days).

Typical Shipping Costs From Los Angeles

See the detailed routes table below. Key cost factors specific to LA:

  • Hillside pickups (Hollywood Hills, Bel Air) may carry a $50-$150 premium for small-truck coordination
  • Port pickups include terminal access fees factored into the quote
  • Summer peak (June-August) = 15-25% higher pricing
  • LA→NY and LA→FL are the highest-volume cross-country routes, competitive pricing year-round

LA-Specific Transport Considerations

I-405 congestion: the most congested freeway in the United States. Carriers scheduling pickups or deliveries on the Westside, South Bay, or Valley via the 405 plan around peak hours (7-10 AM, 3-7 PM). Morning windows before 7 AM or mid-day (10 AM-2 PM) are significantly faster.
Hollywood Hills / hillside access: LA’s hillside neighborhoods (Laurel Canyon, Mulholland, Bel Air, Pacific Palisades, Mt. Washington) have narrow, winding roads with no truck turnaround space. Full-size car haulers physically cannot navigate these streets. We coordinate flatbed or single-car carrier alternatives, or arrange a meeting point at the base of the hill.
Port of LA / Long Beach imports: LA’s ports process more imported vehicles from Japan, South Korea, and Germany than any other U.S. facility. If you’ve imported a vehicle, we coordinate pickup directly from port terminals once customs and processing are complete. Allow 1-5 business days for port processing after vessel arrival.
Wildfire season (June-October): Southern California wildfires can close sections of I-5, the 101, and local canyons at short notice. Smoke and ash during open transport is a concern for high-value vehicles. During active fire season, enclosed transport is recommended for luxury and classic cars. We monitor active fire situations and reroute as needed.
CARB emissions compliance: vehicles being REGISTERED in California must meet CARB standards. If you’re shipping a car INTO LA to register it, check compliance first. Non-compliant vehicles can be shipped but cannot be registered without modification. See our California state page for details.
Luxury and entertainment industry demand: Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Malibu, and the Westside generate significant enclosed transport demand for exotic, luxury, and collector vehicles. We regularly handle Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, and classic car shipments for LA’s entertainment and collector market.
UCLA, USC, Caltech, LMU, Pepperdine: student vehicle shipping demand peaks in September and June. UCLA (Westwood) pickups require coordination due to campus/residential parking restrictions.

Broker vs Carrier Explained

2 J’s Auto Transport is a federally licensed auto transport broker (MC# 799000). That means we don’t own the trucks, we dispatch from a vetted network of independent carriers. For Los Angeles, this flexibility is essential: we can match your vehicle with a carrier already running I-10 east, source a smaller flatbed for a Hollywood Hills pickup where full-size haulers can’t go, coordinate a Port of LA/Long Beach terminal pickup for an imported vehicle, or find an enclosed carrier for a Beverly Hills exotic car. No single carrier can cover every LA scenario, broker flexibility can.

I buy and sell construction equipment all over the US and always go to 2 J’s for long distance transport. They are able to find excellent rates on partial loads within a day or two. The drivers they send are always very professional and helpful. I’ve received quotes from other dispatchers and sometimes drivers offer their services directly, but they can rarely offer compete with 2 J’s pricing or timely service.

You guys were awesome. Picked up on time, dropped off on time as promised. I was returning customer. I had used their service a year and a half back. They were good at that time and this time too they were fantastic. I was fortunate to have got an enclosed truck for the price of open. Seems they had a truck passing on my dates and they gladly put me there. Thank you, John. Thank you, Joyce. I would highly recommend their services.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What documents do I need to ship my car from Los Angeles?

To ship your car from Los Angeles, you typically need a valid government-issued photo ID and proof of ownership, such as vehicle registration or the car title. If the vehicle is leased or financed, you may also need a lienholder authorization letter. Some carriers may ask for additional documents, so it’s best to confirm in advance.

Can I ship oversized vehicles or trucks from Los Angeles?

Yes, oversized vehicles and trucks can be shipped from Los Angeles. However, you should inform the transport company about the vehicle’s dimensions and weight beforehand. Special equipment and pricing may apply based on size, height, and modifications like lift kits or large tires.

Can I ship a vehicle from Los Angeles if I’m currently out of state?

Yes, you can arrange to ship your vehicle from Los Angeles even if you’re out of state. Most auto transport companies allow remote coordination via phone or email. You’ll need to designate someone locally to release the vehicle and provide access to the transporter, if you can’t be there in person.

Do you ship classic or vintage cars in Los Angeles?

Yes, classic and vintage cars can be shipped from Los Angeles. Many carriers offer enclosed transport for added protection, ensuring your vehicle remains safe from weather and road debris. Be sure to mention any special handling instructions or value concerns when booking.

Can I ship a leased or financed vehicle from Los Angeles?

Yes, leased or financed vehicles can be shipped from Los Angeles. However, you may need written authorization from the leasing company or lienholder, depending on the contract. Also, ensure the car is in good standing with insurance and payment status before transport.

Can carriers access Hollywood Hills and hillside neighborhoods?

Full-size car haulers (75 feet long) cannot navigate the narrow, winding roads in Hollywood Hills, Laurel Canyon, Bel Air, or Pacific Palisades. We coordinate alternatives: a smaller flatbed or single-car carrier for direct access, or a meeting point at the base of the hills on a wider boulevard. This is standard for LA hillside pickups.

Can you pick up from the Port of LA or Port of Long Beach?

Yes. We coordinate direct terminal pickup for imported vehicles once they clear customs and port processing (typically 1-5 business days after vessel arrival). We deliver anywhere in California or nationwide from the port.

Is 2 J's Auto Transport a broker or a carrier?

We are a federally licensed auto transport broker (MC# 799000, USDOT# 02349019). We dispatch from a vetted network of independent carriers. We do not own trucks or employ drivers, this flexibility lets us match your vehicle with the right carrier for every LA scenario.

Do you offer auto transport service to all U.S. states and cities?

Yes, we provide auto shipping services across all 50 U.S. states and almost every city. Pricing may vary based on distance, shipping method, season, weather conditions, pickup and delivery locations, fuel costs, and whether the car is operable or not.

To make things even easier, we’ve also gathered some helpful tips and information that can guide you through the process and help you avoid common issues.
