2 J's Auto Transport

Florida Auto Transport Company

2 J's Auto Transport is the top-rated car shipping company in Florida, offering the fastest and easiest way to ship your vehicle to or from Florida.

Step 1 of 3 - Destination

Welcome to 2 J’s Auto Transport, one of the leading auto transport companies serving Florida. Whether you’re a snowbird shipping your vehicle south for the winter, relocating to the Sunshine State, moving a car from Miami to the Northeast, or coordinating a military PCS from one of Florida’s many bases, we provide reliable, affordable, and fully insured auto transportation across Florida and nationwide. With years of experience, we specialize in R.V. transportation, heavy hauling, open carrier shipping, enclosed  auto transport, and shipping of both operable and inoperable vehicles.

Florida is the #1 auto transport destination in the United States, driven primarily by the massive snowbird migration that moves hundreds of thousands of vehicles between the Northeast/Midwest and Florida every year. The state’s highway network is built around I-95 (the East Coast’s primary north-south corridor running from Jacksonville to Miami), I-75 (connecting Tampa and Southwest Florida to Atlanta and the Midwest), I-4 (the central east-west corridor linking Tampa to Orlando to Daytona Beach), and the Florida Turnpike (a toll road running from Miami through Orlando to I-75). These major corridors carry heavy carrier traffic year-round, keeping pricing competitive and availability strong for most Florida routes.

We specialize in open carrier shipping, enclosed auto transport, classic and luxury car shipping, motorcycle transport, heavy haul, and RV/fifth wheel transport. As a federally licensed auto transport broker (MC# 799000, USDOT# 02349019), we dispatch from a vetted network of FMCSA-compliant carriers, matching your shipment with the right truck, on the right route, at the right time. We strictly follow the guidelines set by the USDOT and FMCSA, and we’re fully licensed and insured.

If you’re shipping your car for the first time to or from Florida, here’s a complete guide on how to transport a car to walk you through the process.

Shipping From Florida: What You Should Know

Road Network & Carrier Routes

Florida’s auto transport network is built around four major interstates. I-95 runs the entire east coast from Jacksonville through Daytona Beach, Melbourne, West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, and Miami, this is the single highest-volume auto transport corridor in the state and one of the busiest in the entire country. I-75 enters from Georgia and runs south through Gainesville, Ocala, and Tampa, then crosses the state via Alligator Alley (I-75) to Fort Lauderdale. I-4 connects Tampa to Orlando to Daytona Beach through the center of the state. The Florida Turnpike provides a parallel toll route from Miami through Orlando.

Carrier availability is strongest along the I-95 corridor (Jacksonville to Miami), the I-75 corridor (Tampa/Naples), and the I-4 corridor (Tampa to Orlando). The Florida Panhandle (Tallahassee, Pensacola) has moderate carrier traffic via I-10. The Florida Keys have very limited carrier access via US-1.

Common Pickup & Delivery Areas

South Florida / Miami-Dade / Broward / Palm Beach: The highest-volume auto transport region in Florida. I-95 and Florida Turnpike access. Strong snowbird demand October through April. South Beach/Miami Beach pickups may need causeway meeting points. Gated communities throughout Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Weston, and Parkland require advance gate access coordination. See our Miami auto transport page for city-specific details.

Orlando / Central Florida (including Kissimmee, Sanford, Lake Nona, Winter Park, Clermont): I-4 and Florida Turnpike access. Theme park corridor (Disney, Universal) generates year-round demand. UCF (largest Florida university) drives seasonal student shipping in January, May, and August. See our Orlando auto transport page for city-specific details.

Tampa Bay (including St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Brandon, Riverview, Wesley Chapel): I-75 and I-275 access. Strong carrier traffic. MacDill Air Force Base generates military PCS demand. Causeway/bridge access to beach communities (Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach) may need coordination.

Jacksonville / First Coast (including St. Augustine, Orange Park, Fleming Island, Ponte Vedra): I-95 and I-10 junction. Florida’s northernmost major metro. Good carrier access. Naval Station Mayport generates military traffic.

Southwest Florida (Naples, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Bonita Springs, Estero, Marco Island): I-75 access. HEAVY snowbird population, seasonal demand October through April is among the highest in the state per capita. See our Cape Coral auto transport page for city-specific details.

Space Coast (Melbourne, Cocoa Beach, Titusville, Palm Bay): I-95 access. Patrick Space Force Base generates military PCS demand. Kennedy Space Center / SpaceX operations drive some specialized transport.

Florida Panhandle (Tallahassee, Pensacola, Destin, Panama City, Fort Walton Beach): I-10 access. Eglin Air Force Base and Pensacola Naval Air Station generate heavy military PCS traffic. Beach tourism drives seasonal summer demand. See our Tallahassee auto transport page for city-specific details.

Florida Keys (Key West, Key Largo, Marathon, Islamorada): Accessible ONLY via US-1 from the mainland. The Overseas Highway is a narrow two-lane road with bridge weight restrictions and very limited pull-off space. Not all carriers will service the Keys, some won’t go past Key Largo. Allow 3-5 extra days for Keys deliveries. Confirm Keys capability when booking. Meeting point in Homestead or Florida City is a common alternative.

Typical Shipping Costs From Florida

Florida’s position as the #1 snowbird destination means high carrier traffic and competitive pricing, especially on the I-95 Northeast corridor. Typical ranges for open transport of a standard sedan:

  • Florida → Georgia (Atlanta): $350–$500
  • Florida → South Carolina (Charleston): $350–$500
  • Florida → North Carolina (Charlotte/Raleigh): $450–$650
  • Florida → Virginia (Richmond/NoVA): $500–$700
  • Florida → New York (NYC): $600–$850
  • Florida → New Jersey: $600–$800
  • Florida → Massachusetts (Boston): $700–$950
  • Florida → Pennsylvania (Philadelphia): $550–$750
  • Florida → Ohio (Columbus/Cleveland): $600–$850
  • Florida → Illinois (Chicago): $700–$950
  • Florida → Texas (Dallas/Houston): $650–$900
  • Florida → California (Los Angeles): $1,000–$1,350
  • Florida → Michigan (Detroit): $650–$900

Enclosed transport runs 30–40% higher. Snowbird season (October–April) typically adds 15–25% to Northeast corridor pricing.

Florida Seasonal Shipping: Snowbird Season Drives Everything

Snowbird season (October–April) is the single biggest factor in Florida auto transport. Every fall, hundreds of thousands of seasonal residents ship their vehicles from the Northeast and Midwest to Florida. Every spring, they ship them back. This creates the highest-volume seasonal auto transport corridor in the entire United States.

  • Southbound peak (October–December): Demand and pricing spike as snowbirds head south. The NY→FL, NJ→FL, MA→FL, CT→FL, PA→FL, and OH→FL corridors see 15–25% price increases. Carrier availability tightens. Book 3–4 weeks ahead.
  • Northbound peak (April–May): The reverse migration. Snowbirds ship vehicles back north. Similar pricing spikes and availability tightening. Book 3–4 weeks ahead.
  • Off-season (June–September): Lower demand, lower pricing, faster pickup windows. This is the most affordable time to ship to or from Florida. However, this overlaps with hurricane season.

Hurricane season (June–November) can disrupt Florida auto transport at any time. During active storms or tropical storm warnings, carrier availability drops sharply, evacuation orders can close routes, and some areas may be inaccessible for days. We monitor all tropical weather systems and communicate proactively about any schedule impacts. If you’re shipping during hurricane season, maintain schedule flexibility.

Summer heat (June–September): Florida’s intense heat and daily afternoon thunderstorms don’t typically delay carriers, but enclosed transport is recommended for classic, luxury, or high-value vehicles to protect against sudden storms during loading/unloading and sun exposure during multi-day transit.

Spring break (March): generates temporary demand spikes to Florida beach destinations, particularly from college markets in the Northeast and Midwest.

Florida Vehicle Regulations to Know Before Shipping

Registration timeline: New Florida residents must register their vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency or beginning employment. Florida does not accept out-of-state registrations once residency is established.

Sales tax: Florida charges 6% state sales tax on vehicle purchases, plus county-specific discretionary surtaxes ranging from 0% to 1.5% depending on the county (total can reach 7.5% in some counties like Miami-Dade). Florida does allow credit for sales tax paid in another state, reducing the Florida tax owed.

No annual safety inspection: Florida does not require annual vehicle safety inspections. This is one of the easiest states for bringing in an out-of-state vehicle.

No emissions testing: Florida has no emissions testing program statewide. Any vehicle can be registered regardless of emissions equipment status.

No state income tax: Florida’s lack of state income tax is a major driver of relocation traffic people moving from high-tax states (NY, NJ, CT, CA, IL) frequently ship vehicles to Florida as part of a permanent move. This relocation traffic keeps auto transport demand strong year-round, independent of seasonal snowbird patterns.

VIN verification: Out-of-state vehicles being registered in Florida for the first time require a VIN verification, which can be performed at any Florida tax collector’s office, licensed dealer, or law enforcement agency.

Title transfer: Florida requires a vehicle title transfer within 30 days. You’ll need the existing title, proof of insurance, and applicable fees.

Plates during transport: You don’t need valid plates to ship a car. We transport vehicles with no plates, expired plates, or out-of-state plates.

Florida-Specific Transport Considerations

Snowbird pricing dynamics Florida is the ONLY state where seasonal pricing swings are this dramatic. The same route (e.g., New York to Miami) can cost $600 in July and $850 in November. If you have schedule flexibility, shipping during the off-season (June–September) saves 15–25%. We always quote current market rates, not inflated estimates.

Florida Keys access The Keys are the most challenging delivery destination in the state. US-1 (Overseas Highway) is the only route, with 42 bridges, no passing lanes for most stretches, and limited shoulder space. Full-size car haulers may not be able to navigate past Key Largo. For Key West and lower Keys deliveries, a smaller truck or meeting point in Homestead/Florida City may be required. Confirm Keys capability when booking.

Gated communities South Florida (Boca Raton, Coral Springs, Weston, Parkland, Wellington, PGA National) has extensive gated communities. Carriers need advance gate access arrangements visitor pass, gate code, or resident escort. Provide gate details when booking to avoid delays at pickup/delivery.

Causeway and bridge access Miami Beach (MacArthur, Julia Tuttle, Venetian causeways), Clearwater Beach (Courtney Campbell, Clearwater Memorial), Sanibel Island (Sanibel Causeway), and other barrier island communities require bridge crossings. Some bridges have height or weight restrictions for commercial vehicles. Carriers may arrange mainland staging for these areas.

Military bases Florida has more military installations than almost any state: MacDill AFB (Tampa), Eglin AFB (Fort Walton Beach), Patrick SFB (Cocoa Beach), Pensacola NAS, Naval Station Mayport (Jacksonville), NAS Jacksonville, Homestead ARB, and others. We regularly coordinate PCS vehicle shipments from all Florida bases.

Hurricane evacuation routes During mandatory evacuations, I-95, I-75, Florida Turnpike, and I-10 become one-way outbound (contraflow). This completely halts auto transport carrier traffic in affected areas. Shipments during active evacuation orders are impossible until the order is lifted and routes reopen.

Joyce was amazing to work with from start to finish . My daughter was moving alone from Las Vegas to Chicago and the dates were constantly fluctuating. Joyce was so patient with me , understanding and empathetic to our needs . She made us feel like family . We used Sherpa years ago , and her customer service and communication was way beyond Sherpas ( and they gave excellent service as well, but Joyce blew them out of the water ) The price was competitive with the other carriers , but it really was her personality and customer service that sealed the deal . I would highly recommend using 2 Js auto transport over any of the more popular auto transporters. I spoke to atleast 5 other carriers before choosing 2js transport ( they were highly recommended by my brother , he used in past to get a car from California to Florida ) and I’m so glad we decided to use them . It was seamless and again the open line of communication was exceptional ! I can’t say enough great things about the whole process other than I would pick them hands down over any other carrier !

Joyce and John are such a pleasure to work with. There are a lot of scams in this industry and thankfully this is a family owned company where they actually take care of you like you’re part of their own family. I would highly recommend using their services. Vehicle was picked up and delivered when they said it was, and it was delivered in perfect condition.

This company is very professional and had great communication. I was a little nervous about transporting my vehicle for the first time but they stood behind everything they said they would and followed through from beginning to end. They were very fairly priced amongst competitors, readily available anytime I called or had questions and they were extremely helpful. I would use them again in a heartbeat. Much thanks to 2Js!

Our carriers know Florida inside and out the I-95 snowbird corridor that drives the biggest seasonal pricing swings in the country, the I-75 route through Tampa and Naples, the I-4 corridor through Orlando’s theme park traffic, the Keys access challenges on US-1, the gated community logistics in South Florida, and the hurricane season scheduling that requires real-time flexibility. Florida is the highest-volume auto transport destination in the U.S., which means carrier availability is consistently strong and our 13+ years of carrier relationships translate to competitive pricing even during peak snowbird season.

How We Work - Broker vs Carrier Explained

2 J’s Auto Transport is a federally licensed auto transport broker (MC# 799000). That means we don’t own the trucks or employ the drivers instead, we dispatch from a vetted network of independent carriers across the U.S. For Florida shipments, this flexibility is essential: we can match your vehicle with a carrier already running the I-95 snowbird corridor, find one heading down I-75 to Naples, coordinate a Keys-capable smaller truck for a Key West delivery, arrange gate access for a gated community in Boca Raton, or pivot around a hurricane disruption by rerouting through an alternate corridor. No single carrier can handle every Florida scenario broker flexibility can.

I buy and sell construction equipment all over the US and always go to 2 J’s for long distance transport. They are able to find excellent rates on partial loads within a day or two. The drivers they send are always very professional and helpful. I’ve received quotes from other dispatchers and sometimes drivers offer their services directly, but they can rarely offer compete with 2 J’s pricing or timely service.

You guys were awesome. Picked up on time, dropped off on time as promised. I was returning customer. I had used their service a year and a half back. They were good at that time and this time too they were fantastic. I was fortunate to have got an enclosed truck for the price of open. Seems they had a truck passing on my dates and they gladly put me there. Thank you, John. Thank you, Joyce. I would highly recommend their services.

Frequently Ask Questions (FAQs)

How long does it take to ship a car to or from Florida?

Car shipping to or from Florida usually takes 3 to 7 days, depending on the distance, route, and transport type. Deliveries between major cities like Miami, Orlando, or Tampa and other large U.S. hubs tend to be quicker. Weather, traffic, and carrier availability can also affect the timeline.

Can I ship personal items in my car?

At 2 J’s Auto Transport, you can include up to 100 lbs. of personal items in your vehicle, as long as they’re securely packed in the trunk or below the window line.

Is my vehicle insured during transport?

Yes, your vehicle is insured during transport. All licensed auto transport carriers are required by law to carry liability and cargo insurance. However, coverage levels can vary by company, so it’s a good idea to ask for proof of insurance and review the policy details. For extra peace of mind, you can also check with your personal auto insurance provider to see if your vehicle is covered during shipping.

How do I pay for my auto shipping?

At 2 J’s Auto Transport, we typically require a small deposit at booking. The remaining balance is paid upon vehicle delivery. We accept major credit/debit cards, bank transfers, and in some cases, certified checks or cash at drop-off. You’ll receive full payment instructions when you confirm your shipment.

Can I have my vehicle delivered directly to my home in Florida?

Yes, 2 J’s Auto Transport offers convenient door-to-door service throughout Florida. As long as your street is accessible for a car carrier, we can deliver your vehicle right to your home or a nearby location of your choice. If access is limited, we’ll arrange a safe, convenient spot nearby for pickup or delivery.

Can I ship a non-running car from Florida?

Yes, 2 J’s Auto Transport can ship non-running or inoperable vehicles from Florida. We use specialized equipment like winches and lift gates to safely load and unload non-operable cars. Just let us know the vehicle’s condition when booking so we can make the right arrangements—extra equipment or labor may affect the final cost.
