Away from the Wasatch Front, Utah’s geography presents genuine logistics challenges. I-70 crosses the remote canyon country of central Utah through one of the most scenic and carrier-sparse stretches of interstate in the country. The canyon roads leading to the ski resorts above Salt Lake Valley (Little Cottonwood Canyon to Alta and Snowbird, Big Cottonwood Canyon to Brighton and Solitude) have size restrictions that prohibit standard carriers. Shipping To and From Utah: What You Should Know

Road Network and Carrier Routes

I-15 (primary north-south, Wasatch Front): Idaho border at Malad City south through Ogden, Salt Lake City, Provo, Spanish Fork, Nephi, Beaver, Cedar City, and St. George to Arizona. Runs through the heart of the state’s population. By far the highest carrier density route in Utah.

I-80 (east-west through northern Utah): Nevada border at Wendover east through Tooele, Salt Lake City, Parley’s Canyon, Park City area, Coalville, and into Wyoming at Evanston. The I-80 stretch from Wendover to Salt Lake City crosses 100+ miles of the Bonneville Salt Flats and the Great Salt Lake Desert extreme heat in summer and occasional ice in winter on exposed flats. Strong carrier density on this corridor.

I-84 (northwestern Utah): Enters from Idaho near Snowville, runs southwest through Tremonton and Brigham City, joins I-15 briefly before heading into Nevada. Secondary northern route; moderate carrier traffic.

I-70 (central/eastern Utah, east-west): Enters from Nevada/Colorado near Green River, crosses the San Rafael Desert and the canyon country through Crescent Junction, and exits to Colorado at the Cisco/Moab area. One of the most remote and scenic stretches of interstate in the country. Very limited carrier frequency between Green River and the Colorado border. If your shipment involves I-70 in central Utah, allow significant extra lead time.

US-89 (central and southern Utah): Major north-south scenic route through central Utah, connecting Logan and Cache Valley in the north to Kanab, Fredonia, and the Arizona Strip in the south. Passes near multiple National Parks. Accessible to carriers but requires longer scheduling windows than the Wasatch Front.

Canyon road restrictions: Little Cottonwood Canyon (SR-210, to Alta and Snowbird) and Big Cottonwood Canyon (SR-190, to Brighton and Solitude) have posted size restrictions that exclude standard multi-car haulers. Ski resort vehicle deliveries for these areas use Salt Lake Valley or the canyon mouths as meeting points. We coordinate this in advance.

Pickup and Delivery by Area

Salt Lake City Metro (including Murray, Millcreek, Holladay, Taylorsville, West Valley City, Sandy, South Jordan, Herriman, Riverton) Utah’s primary transport hub. I-15 and I-80 junction. Provo / Orem / Lehi (Utah County) I-15 south of Salt Lake City, the southern end of the Silicon Slopes corridor. Hill Air Force Base Hill AFB in Clearfield is one of the largest Air Force installations in the country by number of employees. The Ogden Air Logistics Complex handles F-35 and legacy aircraft maintenance for the Air Force. PCS military vehicle shipping demand from Hill AFB is consistent and substantial year-round, with moves frequently heading to or from F-35 installations at Eglin AFB (FL), Luke AFB (AZ), Eielson AFB (AK), and others. BYU and university seasonal windows Brigham Young University generates some of the largest student vehicle shipping spikes in the Mountain West. Canyon chain requirements during winter storms further restrict access. Vehicle shipping for ski resort addresses in these canyons uses Salt Lake Valley or the canyon mouths as the meeting point. We coordinate this in advance and it is a standard procedure for these areas.

Park City enclosed vehicle demand Park City and Deer Valley attract affluent second-home and seasonal residents from California, Texas, and the East Coast who frequently ship luxury, exotic, or collector vehicles for ski season (November through April) and summer. Enclosed transport is the standard request for this market. Park City is accessible via I-80 with solid carrier access.

St. George summer heat St. George and the surrounding Washington County area regularly sees temperatures exceeding 110 degrees F in July and August. For vehicles with sensitive electronics, leather interiors, or custom paint, enclosed transport is worth considering for summer shipments to and from St. George. Zion National Park’s SR-9 access road has its own size restrictions for large vehicles carriers serving the park area use the Springdale/St. George area as the delivery point.

Mighty 5 National Parks logistics Utah’s five National Parks (Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef) generate tourism and seasonal resident demand.
