Downstate (NYC, Long Island, Westchester, lower Hudson Valley) sits on the I-95 Northeast Corridor the busiest auto carrier lane in the country which means strong availability and competitive pricing. NYC itself requires specialized logistics: full-size car haulers (75 feet long) cannot navigate most Manhattan streets, and bridge/tunnel restrictions (no commercial carriers through the Lincoln or Holland Tunnels without permits) mean most NYC pickups happen in the outer boroughs, northern NJ, or at prearranged staging locations. Upstate New York is a different picture the NYS Thruway (I-87/I-90) connects Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo with solid carrier traffic, but northern Adirondack communities and rural areas off the Thruway need extra lead time.

New York’s auto transport network splits into two distinct corridors. Downstate: I-95 runs through the Bronx and Westchester connecting to Connecticut/New England northbound and New Jersey/Philadelphia southbound. The Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95/I-295) is one of the most congested stretches in the country. The George Washington Bridge and Tappan Zee/Cuomo Bridge are the primary Hudson River crossings for carriers. Upstate: The NYS Thruway (I-87 south of Albany, I-90 west of Albany) is the backbone, connecting the full Buffalo–Rochester–Syracuse–Albany corridor. I-81 serves Syracuse north to the Canadian border. I-87 north of Albany serves the Adirondacks through Lake George to Montreal.

Common Pickup & Delivery Areas

NYC — Manhattan Full-size car haulers CANNOT operate on most Manhattan streets. Pickups typically happen at a staging location in the Bronx, northern NJ (Newark, Jersey City), or at a commercial lot. We coordinate this seamlessly you just need to get your vehicle to the meeting point or have a representative there.

NYC — Brooklyn / Queens / Bronx / Staten Island Outer borough pickups are generally possible with wider commercial streets. Brooklyn industrial areas (Red Hook, Sunset Park, East New York), Queens near the LIE/BQE, and Bronx near I-95 are the most carrier-friendly zones. Residential side streets may need a nearby commercial meeting point.

Long Island (Nassau & Suffolk Counties) Accessible via LIE (I-495) and Southern/Northern State Parkways (note: parkways have commercial vehicle restrictions carriers use LIE or service roads). Strong demand, good availability. The Hamptons/East End see seasonal summer demand.

Westchester / Rockland / Lower Hudson Valley Excellent I-87 and I-287 access. High-volume area for both NYC commuters and corporate relocations.

Albany / Capital Region I-87/I-90 junction. Good carrier traffic. State government and university (SUNY Albany, RPI) drive steady demand.

Syracuse / Central NY I-90 and I-81 access. Moderate carrier traffic. Syracuse University adds seasonal volume.

New York-Specific Transport Considerations

Manhattan carrier access is the #1 logistics challenge for NY auto transport. Car haulers are 75 feet long and cannot navigate most Manhattan streets. NYC congestion pricing (effective 2024) adds tolls for vehicles entering Manhattan below 60th Street. While this primarily affects passenger vehicles, it creates ripple effects on carrier scheduling and staging logistics for downtown pickups.

Snowbird season (October–April) is massive for New York. The NY→FL corridor (via I-95) is the single highest-volume snowbird auto transport lane in the country. Pricing spikes 15-25% during peak weeks (late October southbound, late April northbound). Long Island, Westchester, and the NJ suburbs are the primary snowbird departure areas. Book 3-4 weeks ahead.

Lake-effect snow (November–March) affects the Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse corridors along I-90. Lake Erie and Lake Ontario can produce 12+ inches of snow with little warning.
